Hebrews 2
2
Do Not Neglect Salvation
1Therefore we must give the more earnest heed to the things we have heard, lest we drift away. 2For if the word #Deut. 33:2; Acts 7:53; Gal. 3:19spoken through angels proved steadfast, and #Num. 15:30every transgression and disobedience received a just reward, 3#Heb. 10:28how shall we escape if we neglect so great a salvation, #Matt. 4:17which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was #Mark 16:20; Luke 1:2; 1 John 1:1confirmed to us by those who heard Him, 4#Mark 16:20God also bearing witness #Acts 2:22, 43; 2 Cor. 12:2both with signs and wonders, with various miracles, and #1 Cor. 12:4, 7, 11; Eph. 4:7gifts of the Holy Spirit, #Eph. 1:5, 9according to His own will?
The Son Made Lower than Angels
5For He has not put #(2 Pet. 3:13)the world to come, of which we speak, in subjection to angels. 6But one testified in a certain place, saying:
#Job 7:17; Ps. 8:4–6“What is man that You are mindful of him,
Or the son of man that You take care of him?
7You have made him a little lower than the angels;
You have crowned him with glory and honor,
And set him over the works of Your hands.
8#Matt. 28:18You have put all things in subjection under his feet.”
For in that He put all in subjection under him, He left nothing that is not put under him. But now #Ps. 8:6; 1 Cor. 15:25, 27we do not yet see all things put under him. 9But we see Jesus, #Phil. 2:7–9; Heb. 1:9who was made a little lower than the angels, for the suffering of death #Acts 2:33; 3:13; 1 Pet. 1:21crowned with glory and honor, that He, by the grace of God, might taste death #Is. 53:12; (John 3:16)for everyone.
Bringing Many Sons to Glory
10For it was fitting for Him, #Col. 1:16for whom are all things and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons to glory, to make the captain of their salvation #Heb. 5:8, 9; 7:28perfect through sufferings. 11For #Heb. 10:10both He who sanctifies and those who are being sanctified #Acts 17:26are all of one, for which reason #Matt. 28:10He is not ashamed to call them brethren, 12saying:
#Ps. 22:22“I will declare Your name to My brethren;
In the midst of the assembly I will sing praise to You.”
13And again:
#2 Sam. 22:3; Is. 8:17“I will put My trust in Him.”
And again:
#Is. 8:18“Here am I and the children whom God has given Me.”
14Inasmuch then as the children have partaken of flesh and blood, He #John 1:14Himself likewise shared in the same, #Col. 2:15that through death He might destroy him who had the power of #(1 Cor. 15:54–57); 2 Tim. 1:10death, that is, the devil, 15and release those who #Ps. 68:18; Is. 42:7; 45:13; 49:9; 61:1; (Luke 1:74)through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage. 16For indeed He does not give aid to angels, but He does give aid to the seed of Abraham. 17Therefore, in all things He had #Phil. 2:7; Heb. 2:14to be made like His brethren, that He might be #(Heb. 4:15; 5:1–10)a merciful and faithful High Priest in things pertaining to God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people. 18#(Heb. 4:15, 16)For in that He Himself has suffered, being tempted, He is able to aid those who are tempted.
