2 Samuel 21:15-17

Desolation: A condition of extreme emptiness, hopelessness, sadness, devastation. Can you relate? During times of desolation, whether in life (e.g. loss of job, home, relationship) or in your internal world (e.g. burnout, dark night of the soul), hope feels elusive. Over the next five days, we will explore what perpetuates desolation, meet others in Scripture who experienced it, and learn ways to move towards more fullness and hope.

2 Samuel depicts the ascension and reign of King David following the death of Saul and Jonathan. David united the kingdom, established Jerusalem as the capital city, and extended the territory of Israel. At the crescendo of the book, God promises David that "your throne shall be established forever" (2 Samuel 7:16). Despite David's wickedness, God ultimately fulfills his promises to David through the person and work of Jesus Christ.

David was a man mightily helped. At every junction in his life, he enjoyed God's help. But these help came from people God raised in his life. As we embark on this journey to pray, we will contemplate Some of these people and the help they released to David. From there, we will take issues for our prayer.
