Psalm 9
9
I Will Recount Your Wonderful Deeds
# 9:1 Psalms 9 and 10 together follow an acrostic pattern, each stanza beginning with the successive letters of the Hebrew alphabet. In the Septuagint they form one psalm To the choirmaster: according to Muth-labben.#9:1 Probably a musical or liturgical term A Psalm of David.
1I will give thanks to the Lord with my whole heart;
I will recount all of your #Ps. 26:7; 40:5; 96:3; 105:5wonderful deeds.
2I will be glad and #Ps. 5:11 exult in you;
I will #Ps. 7:17 sing praise to your name, #See Ps. 83:18O Most High.
3When my enemies turn back,
they stumble and perish before#9:3 Or because of your presence.
4For you have #Ps. 140:12 maintained my just cause;
you have #Ps. 29:10sat on the throne, giving righteous judgment.
5You have #Ps. 68:30 rebuked the nations; you have made the wicked perish;
you have #Deut. 9:14; 29:20; [Prov. 10:7]blotted out their name forever and ever.
6The enemy came to an end in everlasting ruins;
their cities you rooted out;
the very memory of them has perished.
7But the Lord sits enthroned forever;
he has established his throne for justice,
8and he #Ps. 58:11; 96:13; 98:9 judges the world with righteousness;
he #Ps. 96:10judges the peoples with uprightness.
9The Lord is #2 Sam. 22:3; [Prov. 18:10] a stronghold for #Ps. 10:18; 74:21 the oppressed,
a stronghold in #Ps. 10:1times of trouble.
10And those who #Ps. 91:14know your name put their trust in you,
for you, O Lord, have not forsaken those who seek you.
11Sing praises to the Lord, who #Ps. 76:2 sits enthroned in Zion!
Tell among the peoples his #Ps. 77:12; [Ps. 107:22]deeds!
12For he who #Gen. 9:5; [Ps. 10:13]; See 1 Kgs. 21:17-19 avenges blood is mindful of them;
he #ver. 18; Ps. 10:12; [Ps. 12:5]does not forget the cry of the afflicted.
13 #
Ps. 4:1 Be gracious to me, O Lord!
See my affliction from those who hate me,
O you who lift me up from #See Job 38:17the gates of death,
14that I may recount all your praises,
that in the gates of #2 Kgs. 19:21; Isa. 37:22 the daughter of Zion
I may #Ps. 13:5; 20:5; 21:1; 35:9; 1 Sam. 2:1rejoice in your salvation.
15The nations have sunk in #See Ps. 7:15 the pit that they made;
in #See Job 18:8the net that they hid, their own foot has been caught.
16The Lord has made himself #Ex. 7:5; 14:4known; he has executed judgment;
the wicked are snared in the work of their own hands. Higgaion.#9:16 Probably a musical or liturgical term Selah
17The wicked shall #[Gen. 3:19] return to Sheol,
all the nations that #Ps. 50:22; Job 8:13; Isa. 51:13forget God.
18For the needy shall not always be forgotten,
and #[Prov. 23:18; 24:14]the hope of the poor shall not perish forever.
19 # See
Ps. 3:7 Arise, O Lord! Let not #[Ps. 10:18]man prevail;
let the nations be judged before you!
20Put them in fear, O Lord!
Let the nations know that they are but #[See ver. 19 above]men! Selah
