As soon as the meal was finished, he insisted that the disciples get in the boat and go on ahead to the other side while he dismissed the people. With the crowd dispersed, he climbed the mountain so he could be by himself and pray. He stayed there alone, late into the night. Meanwhile, the boat was far out to sea when the wind came up against them and they were battered by the waves. At about four o’clock in the morning, Jesus came toward them walking on the water. They were scared to death. “A ghost!” they said, crying out in terror. But Jesus was quick to comfort them. “Courage, it’s me. Don’t be afraid.” Peter, suddenly bold, said, “Master, if it’s really you, call me to come to you on the water.” He said, “Come ahead.” Jumping out of the boat, Peter walked on the water to Jesus. But when he looked down at the waves churning beneath his feet, he lost his nerve and started to sink. He cried, “Master, save me!”

Hopelessness plagues most people at some point or another. It isn't reserved for a select few. Even many of our honored Biblical heroes suffered from a lack of hope from time to time. Tony Evans shares thoughts on how to have hope and overcome despair in this short reading plan.
Have you ever experienced failure? If you have spent any amount of time in life on this earth you have failed, and those failures can break you. If there is one person who understood failure in full measure it would be the Apostle Peter. This plan will share three incidences in the life of Peter that perhaps you can identify with. God can teach us that failure is not fatal.
If you are in a situation where you cannot imagine a good outcome or where you feel hemmed in by your circumstances, it can be easy to be tempted to give up hope. But don’t forget that God knows exactly where you are. He hasn’t lost track of you. And He will bring you through if you keep your eyes on Him.
Sometimes following God requires stepping out on a word when the wind is against you — and once you take a step of faith you’ve got to fix your focus on what God said instead of what you see.
