Job 5:1-6
Job 5:1-6 New International Version (NIV)
“Call if you will, but who will answer you? To which of the holy ones will you turn? Resentment kills a fool, and envy slays the simple. I myself have seen a fool taking root, but suddenly his house was cursed. His children are far from safety, crushed in court without a defender. The hungry consume his harvest, taking it even from among thorns, and the thirsty pant after his wealth. For hardship does not spring from the soil, nor does trouble sprout from the ground.
Job 5:1-6 English Standard Version Revision 2016 (ESV)
“Call now; is there anyone who will answer you? To which of the holy ones will you turn? Surely vexation kills the fool, and jealousy slays the simple. I have seen the fool taking root, but suddenly I cursed his dwelling. His children are far from safety; they are crushed in the gate, and there is no one to deliver them. The hungry eat his harvest, and he takes it even out of thorns, and the thirsty pant after his wealth. For affliction does not come from the dust, nor does trouble sprout from the ground
Job 5:1-7 The Message (MSG)
“Call for help, Job, if you think anyone will answer! To which of the holy angels will you turn? The hot temper of a fool eventually kills him, the jealous anger of an idiot does her in. I’ve seen it myself—seen fools putting down roots, and then, suddenly, their houses are cursed. Their children out in the cold, abused and exploited, with no one to stick up for them. Hungry people off the street plunder their harvests, cleaning them out completely, taking thorns and all, insatiable for everything they have. Don’t blame fate when things go wrong— trouble doesn’t come from nowhere. It’s human! Mortals are born and bred for trouble, as certainly as sparks fly upward.
Job 5:1-6 King James Version (KJV)
Call now, if there be any that will answer thee; And to which of the saints wilt thou turn? For wrath killeth the foolish man, And envy slayeth the silly one. I have seen the foolish taking root: But suddenly I cursed his habitation. His children are far from safety, And they are crushed in the gate, Neither is there any to deliver them. Whose harvest the hungry eateth up, And taketh it even out of the thorns, And the robber swalloweth up their substance. Although affliction cometh not forth of the dust, Neither doth trouble spring out of the ground
Job 5:1-6 New American Standard Bible - NASB 1995 (NASB1995)
“Call now, is there anyone who will answer you? And to which of the holy ones will you turn? For anger slays the foolish man, And jealousy kills the simple. I have seen the foolish taking root, And I cursed his abode immediately. His sons are far from safety, They are even oppressed in the gate, And there is no deliverer. His harvest the hungry devour And take it to a place of thorns, And the schemer is eager for their wealth. For affliction does not come from the dust, Nor does trouble sprout from the ground
Job 5:1-6 New Century Version (NCV)
“Call if you want to, Job, but no one will answer you. You can’t turn to any of the holy ones. Anger kills the fool, and jealousy slays the stupid. I have seen a fool succeed, but I cursed his home immediately. His children are far from safety and are crushed in court with no defense. The hungry eat his harvest, even taking what grew among the thorns, and thirsty people want his wealth. Hard times do not come up from the ground, and trouble does not grow from the earth.
Job 5:1-6 American Standard Version (ASV)
Call now; is there any that will answer thee? And to which of the holy ones wilt thou turn? For vexation killeth the foolish man, And jealousy slayeth the silly one. I have seen the foolish taking root: But suddenly I cursed his habitation. His children are far from safety, And they are crushed in the gate, Neither is there any to deliver them: Whose harvest the hungry eateth up, And taketh it even out of the thorns; And the snare gapeth for their substance. For affliction cometh not forth from the dust, Neither doth trouble spring out of the ground
Job 5:1-6 New King James Version (NKJV)
“Call out now; Is there anyone who will answer you? And to which of the holy ones will you turn? For wrath kills a foolish man, And envy slays a simple one. I have seen the foolish taking root, But suddenly I cursed his dwelling place. His sons are far from safety, They are crushed in the gate, And there is no deliverer. Because the hungry eat up his harvest, Taking it even from the thorns, And a snare snatches their substance. For affliction does not come from the dust, Nor does trouble spring from the ground
Job 5:1-6 Amplified Bible (AMP)
“Call now—is there anyone who will answer you? And to which of the holy ones (angels) will you turn? “For anger slays the foolish man, And jealousy kills the simple (naive). “I have seen the foolish taking root [and outwardly prospering], But I cursed his dwelling immediately [for his destruction was certain]. “His children are far from safety [and included in their father’s ruin], They are oppressed and crushed in the [court of justice in the city’s] gate, And there is no one to rescue them. “The hungry devour his harvest And take it even [when it grows] among the thorns; The trap opens for [his] wealth. “For affliction does not come forth from the dust, Nor does trouble spring forth from the ground.
Job 5:1-6 New Living Translation (NLT)
“Cry for help, but will anyone answer you? Which of the angels will help you? Surely resentment destroys the fool, and jealousy kills the simple. I have seen that fools may be successful for the moment, but then comes sudden disaster. Their children are abandoned far from help; they are crushed in court with no one to defend them. The hungry devour their harvest, even when it is guarded by brambles. The thirsty pant after their wealth. But evil does not spring from the soil, and trouble does not sprout from the earth.
