Jesus answered, “First, let me ask you a question: About the baptism of John—who authorized it, heaven or humans?”

And he answered and said unto them, I will also ask you one thing; and answer me: The baptism of John, was it from heaven, or of men?

Jesus answered and said to them, “I will also ask you a question, and you tell Me: Was the baptism of John from heaven or from men?”

Jesus answered, “I will also ask you a question. Tell me: When John baptized people, was that authority from God or just from other people?”

And he answered and said unto them, I also will ask you a question; and tell me: The baptism of John, was it from heaven, or from men?

He replied, “I will also ask you a question. Tell me: John’s baptism—was it from heaven, or of human origin?”

But He answered and said to them, “I also will ask you one thing, and answer Me: The baptism of John—was it from heaven or from men?”

Jesus replied, “I will also ask you a question. You tell Me: The baptism of John [the Baptist]—was it from heaven [that is, ordained by God] or from men?”

“Let me ask you a question first,” he replied. “Did John’s authority to baptize come from heaven, or was it merely human?”

Jesus responded, “First, let me ask you a question and you tell me right now. Did John baptize because he had a commission from heaven or merely from men?”

He answered them, “I also will ask you a question. Now tell me, was the baptism of John from heaven or from man?”
