Luke 20:38-42
Luke 20:34-44 The Message (MSG)
Jesus said, “Marriage is a major preoccupation here, but not there. Those who are included in the resurrection of the dead will no longer be concerned with marriage nor, of course, with death. They will have better things to think about, if you can believe it. All ecstasies and intimacies then will be with God. Even Moses exclaimed about resurrection at the burning bush, saying, ‘God: God of Abraham, God of Isaac, God of Jacob!’ God isn’t the God of dead men, but of the living. To him all are alive.” Some of the religion scholars said, “Teacher, that’s a great answer!” For a while, anyway, no one dared put questions to him. * * * Then he put a question to them: “How is it that they say that the Messiah is David’s son? And David himself saith in the book of Psalms, The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand

God is the God of the living, not the dead, because all people are alive to him.” Some of the teachers of the law said, “Teacher, your answer was good.” No one was brave enough to ask him another question. Then Jesus said, “Why do people say that the Christ is the Son of David? In the book of Psalms, David himself says: ‘The Lord said to my Lord, “Sit by me at my right side

Now He is not the God of the dead, but of the living [so these forefathers will be among the resurrected]; for all live [in a definite relationship] to Him.” Some of the scribes replied, “Teacher, you have spoken well [so that there is no room for blame].” And they did not dare to question Him further about anything [because of the wisdom He displayed in His answers]. Then He said to them, “How is it that people say that the Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed) is David’s son? [Matt 22:41-46; Mark 12:35-37] For David himself says in the book of Psalms, ‘THE LORD (the Father) SAID TO MY LORD (the Son, the Messiah), “SIT AT MY RIGHT HAND

He is the God who raises the dead.” The experts of the law chimed in, “Yes, Teacher, you speak the truth beautifully.” From then on, the religious Sadducees never dared ask Jesus a question again. Jesus then posed this question to the people: “How can the experts of the law say that Messiah is David’s son? Haven’t you read in the Psalms where David himself wrote
