Proverbs 16:1-5
Proverbs 16:1-5 English Standard Version Revision 2016 (ESV)
The plans of the heart belong to man, but the answer of the tongue is from the LORD. All the ways of a man are pure in his own eyes, but the LORD weighs the spirit. Commit your work to the LORD, and your plans will be established. The LORD has made everything for its purpose, even the wicked for the day of trouble. Everyone who is arrogant in heart is an abomination to the LORD; be assured, he will not go unpunished.
Proverbs 16:1-5 The Message (MSG)
Mortals make elaborate plans, but GOD has the last word. Humans are satisfied with whatever looks good; GOD probes for what is good. Put GOD in charge of your work, then what you’ve planned will take place. GOD made everything with a place and purpose; even the wicked are included—but for judgment. GOD can’t stomach arrogance or pretense; believe me, he’ll put those braggarts in their place.
Proverbs 16:1-5 King James Version (KJV)
The preparations of the heart in man, And the answer of the tongue, is from the LORD. All the ways of a man are clean in his own eyes; But the LORD weigheth the spirits. Commit thy works unto the LORD, And thy thoughts shall be established. The LORD hath made all things for himself: Yea, even the wicked for the day of evil. Every one that is proud in heart is an abomination to the LORD: Though hand join in hand, he shall not be unpunished.
Proverbs 16:1-5 New American Standard Bible - NASB 1995 (NASB1995)
The plans of the heart belong to man, But the answer of the tongue is from the LORD. All the ways of a man are clean in his own sight, But the LORD weighs the motives. Commit your works to the LORD And your plans will be established. The LORD has made everything for its own purpose, Even the wicked for the day of evil. Everyone who is proud in heart is an abomination to the LORD; Assuredly, he will not be unpunished.
Proverbs 16:1-5 New Century Version (NCV)
People may make plans in their minds, but only the LORD can make them come true. You may believe you are doing right, but the LORD will judge your reasons. Depend on the LORD in whatever you do, and your plans will succeed. The LORD makes everything go as he pleases. He has even prepared a day of disaster for evil people. The LORD hates those who are proud. They will surely be punished.
Proverbs 16:1-5 American Standard Version (ASV)
The plans of the heart belong to man; But the answer of the tongue is from Jehovah. All the ways of a man are clean in his own eyes; But Jehovah weigheth the spirits. Commit thy works unto Jehovah, And thy purposes shall be established. Jehovah hath made everything for its own end; Yea, even the wicked for the day of evil. Every one that is proud in heart is an abomination to Jehovah: Though hand join in hand, he shall not be unpunished.
Proverbs 16:1-5 New International Version (NIV)
To humans belong the plans of the heart, but from the LORD comes the proper answer of the tongue. All a person’s ways seem pure to them, but motives are weighed by the LORD. Commit to the LORD whatever you do, and he will establish your plans. The LORD works out everything to its proper end— even the wicked for a day of disaster. The LORD detests all the proud of heart. Be sure of this: They will not go unpunished.
Proverbs 16:1-5 New King James Version (NKJV)
The preparations of the heart belong to man, But the answer of the tongue is from the LORD. All the ways of a man are pure in his own eyes, But the LORD weighs the spirits. Commit your works to the LORD, And your thoughts will be established. The LORD has made all for Himself, Yes, even the wicked for the day of doom. Everyone proud in heart is an abomination to the LORD; Though they join forces, none will go unpunished.
Proverbs 16:1-5 Amplified Bible (AMP)
The plans and reflections of the heart belong to man, But the [wise] answer of the tongue is from the LORD. All the ways of a man are clean and innocent in his own eyes [and he may see nothing wrong with his actions], But the LORD weighs and examines the motives and intents [of the heart and knows the truth]. [1 Sam 16:7; Heb 4:12] Commit your works to the LORD [submit and trust them to Him], And your plans will succeed [if you respond to His will and guidance]. The LORD has made everything for its own purpose, Even the wicked [according to their role] for the day of evil. Everyone who is proud and arrogant in heart is disgusting and exceedingly offensive to the LORD; Be assured he will not go unpunished. [Prov 8:13; 11:20, 21]
Proverbs 16:1-5 New Living Translation (NLT)
We can make our own plans, but the LORD gives the right answer. People may be pure in their own eyes, but the LORD examines their motives. Commit your actions to the LORD, and your plans will succeed. The LORD has made everything for his own purposes, even the wicked for a day of disaster. The LORD detests the proud; they will surely be punished.
Proverbs 16:1-5 The Passion Translation (TPT)
Go ahead and make all the plans you want, but it’s the Lord who will ultimately direct your steps. We are all in love with our own opinions, convinced they’re correct. But the Lord is in the midst of us, testing and probing our every motive. Before you do anything, put your trust totally in God and not in yourself. Then every plan you make will succeed. The Lord works everything together to accomplish his purpose. Even the wicked are included in his plans— he sets them aside for the day of disaster. YAHWEH detests all the proud of heart, for pride attracts his punishment— and you can count on that!
