Psalms 16:2-4
Psalms 16:1-4 The Message (MSG)
Keep me safe, O God, I’ve run for dear life to you. I say to GOD, “Be my Lord!” Without you, nothing makes sense. And these God-chosen lives all around— what splendid friends they make! Don’t just go shopping for a god. Gods are not for sale. I swear I’ll never treat god-names like brand-names.
Psalms 16:2-4 King James Version (KJV)
O my soul, thou hast said unto the LORD, Thou art my Lord: My goodness extendeth not to thee; But to the saints that are in the earth, And to the excellent, in whom is all my delight. Their sorrows shall be multiplied that hasten after another god: Their drink offerings of blood will I not offer, Nor take up their names into my lips.
Psalms 16:2-4 New American Standard Bible - NASB 1995 (NASB1995)
I said to the LORD, “You are my Lord; I have no good besides You.” As for the saints who are in the earth, They are the majestic ones in whom is all my delight. The sorrows of those who have bartered for another god will be multiplied; I shall not pour out their drink offerings of blood, Nor will I take their names upon my lips.
Psalms 16:2-4 New Century Version (NCV)
I said to the LORD, “You are my Lord. Every good thing I have comes from you.” As for the godly people in the world, they are the wonderful ones I enjoy. But those who turn to idols will have much pain. I will not offer blood to those idols or even speak their names.
Psalms 16:2-4 American Standard Version (ASV)
O my soul, thou hast said unto Jehovah, Thou art my Lord: I have no good beyond thee. As for the saints that are in the earth, They are the excellent in whom is all my delight. Their sorrows shall be multiplied that give gifts for another god: Their drink-offerings of blood will I not offer, Nor take their names upon my lips.
Psalms 16:2-4 New International Version (NIV)
I say to the LORD, “You are my Lord; apart from you I have no good thing.” I say of the holy people who are in the land, “They are the noble ones in whom is all my delight.” Those who run after other gods will suffer more and more. I will not pour out libations of blood to such gods or take up their names on my lips.
Psalms 16:2-4 New King James Version (NKJV)
O my soul, you have said to the LORD, “You are my Lord, My goodness is nothing apart from You.” As for the saints who are on the earth, “They are the excellent ones, in whom is all my delight.” Their sorrows shall be multiplied who hasten after another god; Their drink offerings of blood I will not offer, Nor take up their names on my lips.
Psalms 16:2-4 Amplified Bible (AMP)
I said to the LORD, “You are my Lord; I have no good besides You.” As for the saints (godly people) who are in the land, They are the majestic and the noble and the excellent ones in whom is all my delight. The sorrows [pain and suffering] of those who have chosen another god will be multiplied [because of their idolatry]; I will not pour out their drink offerings of blood, Nor will I take their names upon my lips.
Psalms 16:2-4 New Living Translation (NLT)
I said to the LORD, “You are my Master! Every good thing I have comes from you.” The godly people in the land are my true heroes! I take pleasure in them! Troubles multiply for those who chase after other gods. I will not take part in their sacrifices of blood or even speak the names of their gods.
Psalms 16:2-4 The Passion Translation (TPT)
I said to YAHWEH, “You are my Maker and my Master. Any good thing you find in me has come from you.” And he said to me, “My holy lovers in the land are my glorious ones, who fulfill all my desires.” Yet there are those who yield to their weakness, and they will have troubles unending. I never gather with such ones, nor give them honor in any way.
Psalms 16:2-4 English Standard Version Revision 2016 (ESV)
I say to the LORD, “You are my Lord; I have no good apart from you.” As for the saints in the land, they are the excellent ones, in whom is all my delight. The sorrows of those who run after another god shall multiply; their drink offerings of blood I will not pour out or take their names on my lips.
