Shortly after writing his first letter, Peter hears word of false teaching spreading amongst the churches in Asia Minor. The letter focuses on combating false teachers and encouraging believers to grow in spiritual maturity by studying the Scriptures. Second Peter reminds us to be diligent in confirming our calling by cultivating Christ-likeness in all aspects of our lives.

What better model could we provide for our children than feeding on God’s Word (Jer. 15:16) and allowing its content to permeate our lives (Col. 3:16), yielding Spirit-produced godliness? Such godly qualities, as appear in 2 Peter 1:3-7, “render [us] neither useless nor unfruitful in the true knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ” (v. 8).
