Sometimes, everything in life seems to get stuck, and we desperately need a fresh start. Mark describes how God made a new beginning possible by sending His Son to earth. This reading plan shows what it means to leave our old life behind and start over - with the Lord Jesus.

The Bible is full of stories about people who try to live to God's glory - with ups and downs. Elijah is such a man. He is a prophet who serves God wholeheartedly, but is also prone to despondency and depression. He confronts the king fearlessly, but flees from the queen. And in all this, God continues to care for His servant.

What began as a victorious return to the land in Joshua ends in destruction, defeat, and exile in 2 Kings. The idolatry and sinfulness of Israel and Judah lead to their expulsion from the land - a final ignominy in a long history of unfaithfulness. Yet even in exile, God was preserving his people and the line of David for a future coming King, whose reign would know no end.

God's Word is both timeless and timely and the story of Elijah in 1 & 2 Kings shows how God was faithful to His people even in the midst of demonic destruction. Elijah was one of the greatest men, after Jesus Christ, to ever live, and his boldness will encourage you to stand firm against the ultimate Enemy.
