“Children of God”

How can I be a daughter or a son of God when I already have a father and a mother?

The word which stands for son also means a daughter or son by adoption. You and your earthly father share the same nature, whether you like it or not. But you were also made in the image of God so that you share the same nature with him as well.

Unlike in our world, it’s not the older one who signs the paper for the adoption, it’s us. When we decide that we want to be a child of God and declare that his own son died for our sins at the cross and was resurrected, that is when we are adopted into His family. And only we can make the decision.

The very nature of God is love, grace, and peace. Because we are his children, we should also long for peace. A peacemaker is basically someone who declares God’s good news and the love of God.

By being a peacemaker, that is how we, as children of God, reflect his nature. We can help others reconcile with God by sharing that there is a God who loves them and wants peace for all of us. So let’s spread the good news--news that saves and brings peace.
