Betraying Jesus with a Kiss

Judas’ betrayal is the ultimate plot twist. Here, we see a man who was close to Jesus, one of his twelve disciples, turn against Him. A kiss—something that symbolizes affection and trust—was used as a weapon for betrayal. This whole scene shows us how easy it is for human weaknesses, pride, and fear to lead us away from God. But what’s wild is that even in the middle of this betrayal, God’s grace is still at work. Jesus knew the pain Judas would cause, yet He still offered love. Judas wasn’t just a "villain," he was a person just like us—flawed and frail. This is a reminder to look at our own lives and where we may be betraying Jesus in small ways, even when we don’t realize it.

When I think about this story, it makes me pause and reflect on my own actions. Do I betray Jesus in subtle ways—by letting fear, pride, or weaknesses shape my choices? Jesus invites us to examine our lives and recognize how we, too, can be both broken and beloved. What are the moments in my life where I’ve chosen something or someone else over my relationship with God? How can I be more aware of these choices and turn back to His grace?
