Lent Youth Guide | Jesus' Real Talk During His Hardest & Darkest Moments

Think:

Judas, someone who was close to Jesus, experienced a deep moment of regret after realizing what he had done. But here’s the thing: we often skip past Judas and move straight to the good stuff – Resurrection, freedom, hope. But let’s pause for a second and consider what’s happening before the empty tomb. Judas’ betrayal shows us a lot about the nature of brokenness, human failure, and our constant need for God’s grace. It also reminds us that any of us can fall into a place of regret. It’s easy to judge Judas as the bad guy, but what if we took a moment to reflect on how we might be like him? The same betrayal can happen in our own hearts, in ways we might not even realize.

Live:

Judas wasn’t just a villain – he was part of Jesus’ circle. He walked with Him, shared meals, and saw miracles. So, when we’re faced with our own mistakes, we need to ask ourselves: what part of our own hearts are we avoiding bringing to God? The real challenge here is not just seeing Judas as “the betrayer,” but recognizing the brokenness within us. This is an opportunity to take a hard look at ourselves. Where have we been distant from God, and where do we need to seek His grace? In the end, no matter how far we’ve gone, there’s always room for redemption.

Questions to ask yourself:

  • What are the things I feel most guilty or ashamed about?
  • How can I invite God into those places of brokenness?
Pray:
Jesus, help me to recognize the parts of my heart that need Your grace. I ask for the courage to bring my guilt and my regrets to You. Amen.
