The Winter Olympics And The BibleSample
Nick Geopper Relies on Seminal New Testament Verse for Strength, Inspiration
Nick Geopper has seen the good, the bad and the ugly of freestyle skiing:
He has won three Winter X Games gold medals, a Winter X Games silver medal, and the bronze medal at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi (the good). Then, he finished 11th at the 2016 Winter X Games (the bad). Prior to that disappointing performance, Geopper suffered a severe dislocated shoulder, which resulted in surgery and nearly a year away from the sport. He has also broken his hand (the ugly).
In all of those situations, however, Geopper shared with Christian Sports Journal that one Bible verse in particular helps him get through the challenges and inspires him to do his best on the slopes.
“I like to quote the verse, ‘I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength,’” Goepper said, while referencing Philippians 4:13. “I kind of envision me skiing and God is kind of like an eagle right next to me screeching in my ear that everything is going to be all good. I just try my best and that’s all I can ask for.”
