Streaks: Bible ReadingSample
Let’s be honest – we all love getting credit for something awesome, don’t we? If we do something that we’re proud of, we want people to notice…it’s human nature! This is what makes Jesus’ teaching here so profoundly difficult. Jesus tells us to continue to do good things like help the needy and give money to support a good cause…but He tells us to be as discreet as possible. Really, it’s a matter of who we are trying to please. Do we want other people to see us being awesome so that they will think highly of us? (Which, to be honest, is really only about pleasing ourselves) Or, do we want God to see and be proud of what we’ve done…are we primarily concerned with what God thinks and if He is pleased? These are not easy questions to ask ourselves, but Jesus calls us to live our lives concerned only with what God thinks. So, let me ask you: who are you trying to please?
As you read today, ask yourself these two questions:
- What verse or phrase stood out to me the most?
- What can I do with that in my life today?

About this Plan
Jesus’ most famous sermon is found spread across three chapters of the book of Matthew, and it is absolutely packed with incredible wisdom and intense challenges. We will spend one week focusing on bite-sized chunks of this message, and building a Bible-reading streak. If we will chew on these words and set out to apply one concept each day, we will see our lives changed dramatically in seven short days.
