God's Word Directs Our Steps
One of the greatest challenges we all face in this life is knowing what path to take. Even many of our small decisions can impact our future more than we realize. That is why we all long to know if we are making the "right" choices in life. That is why we must embrace this truth - God knows best how he created us to live this life.
God wants you to know how he designed you for life. God isn't trying to keep the key to living a fulfilled life a secret. God has spoken to us through His Word to illuminate the best path for us to take in life.
Hebrews 4:12 says, "For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart".
As we read the Bible, God's Spirit speaks to us and brings truth to light. Sometimes God will reveal things in us that need to go so that he can fill us with something better. But we have to do more than just read it; we have to apply it.
God wants to help you on this journey of life. He has given you all you need to make wise decisions that honor God. As you learn to trust in Him and not on your own understanding, it will guide you in everything you do.
Make reading and applying God's Word a daily practice. Reading God's Word can posture your heart to hear his voice and find peace for the steps ahead. Here is a method you can use to help you study and apply God's Word.
S. O. A. P. Method
Study - Choose a passage of Scripture to study (a verse, passage or chapter). Read it over a couple times.
Observe - What things stand out to you about the passage? Ask questions. Why did this person write this? Who was the audience? What does this passage teach me about God or myself? Write them down and think about them.
Apply - Ask how this truth might apply to your life or current situation. What do you need to do in response to this truth that moves you in the direction God wants you to go? Write down what you feel God may be speaking to you about action to take.
Pray - Take time to pray through what God is speaking to you through your study. Ask for God's strength to act on what you've learned. Consider journaling your prayer to God and write out requests. This will give you an opportunity to revisit your prayers and see how God has answered.
