The Poor Rich Man

DAY 3 OF 5

A LIFE OF NO TOMORROWS

Biblical teaching about contentment often goes hand in hand with trusting God. "Don't love money; be satisfied with what you have. For God has said, 'I will never fail you. I will never abandon you'" (Hebrews 13:5, NLT). It is easy to read it from the point of view of the poor. Do not be anxious if you have too little. Trust God, He will care for you. But who do you trust if you have enough?

It is very easy to trust in resources that you have accumulated yourself. You can see it. You know how to get more of it if needed. But you also know your own limitations. You know that one mistake can pull the security mat from under your feet in a second. And then starts the worrying.

Trusting God completely is a battle that wealthy Christians face every day. The same lies that Satan used to tempt Jesus are still among his favorite weapons. "'I will give it all to you,' he said, 'if you will kneel down and worship me'" (Matthew 4:1-11, NLT). He should have added, "Then you will not need God."

Do you rely on your own abilities or resources for tomorrow's needs? Do you sometimes feel anxious about losing the security that your finances provide?

God has compassion for your struggle. He wants to help you. "So don't worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today's trouble is enough for today" (Matthew 6:34, NLT).

Day 2Day 4

About this Plan

The Poor Rich Man

What emotions do you experience when you see someone who is wealthy? Perhaps envy or distrust? In Mark 10, Jesus felt intense compassion for a rich man He interacted with. In this plan, we will explore why financial prosperity often makes it hard to follow Christ. I hope that you will discover a whole new dimension of God's love for people from all walks of life.
