Unmasked - Dare to Be the Real YouSample
DEVOTIONAL PASSAGE
Has the soundtrack of shame played out in your life anything like this: "You are not good enough"?
On the one hand, the enemy is trying to remind us of our shame, but, on the other hand, God reminds us that our past is in the past and is forgotten. If the enemy can succeed in his quest, then he causes us to retreat into ourselves, and we become completely ineffective as Christians. He tries to make sure his accusations are always personal, pervasive, and permanent; but God reminds us that in Him we are new creations. He sets us free from condemnation and shame. God will correct us, but His correction is never to condemn or shame us, rather He convicts us in order to change us.
So how do we unmask shame in our lives?
I’ve learned to be vulnerable and admit to my failings and to these feelings of defeat and shame. Like many of us, I have made mistakes growing up, and the accuser tries to play this soundtrack in my mind over and over: ‘’How can you lead a church with your past?" Instead of retreating, I choose to 'shame the shamer' and break his power. Instead of listening to the lie: “You’re not enough”, I fight back with God's truth and say, “I am _____ ”. The accuser cannot stand against us when he hears us declare that we know who we are in Christ.
Being vulnerable and admitting our failures disarms the accuser, and exposing his lies with God's truth breaks his power over us. An exposed enemy is a defeated enemy. This battle is more than a one-time occurrence. We need to challenge his attacks daily and choose to chase him out.
What declarations from God’s Word do you need to speak out loud to unmask shame and choose freedom as the soundtrack of your life?
In what areas do you need to change the track and tune into a different frequency?
TAKEAWAYS
I am a new creation in Christ, forgiven and loved.
My shame is buried, and God no longer remembers it.
I can hold my head up because Jesus lives in me.
DECLARATIONS
Heavenly Father, I take off the mask of shame because You have taken my shame upon Yourself. At the cross, You set me free, You called me your own, and I no longer walk under the weight of feeling not good enough. I stand as "enough" in Your presence because You paid the price for my shame. Amen.
REFLECTIONS
What does it mean to you that God has written His story over your story?
What is your responsibility now in view of this?
How do you shut out the accuser on a daily basis?
About this Plan
A war is taking place over our identity. It has stopped us from living authentic, vulnerable, transparent lives and is robbing us of fullness of life. We wear masks that cover the truth - we are created in God's likeness and image. He has paid for us to be equipped with love, peace, joy, and security. Let's lose the masks and discover who God created us to be.
