The 7 Last Words of Christ With Jim CaviezelSample
The Third Word - Woman, behold thy son! Behold thy mother
“From the Cross He completes His last will and testament. He had already committed His blood to the Church, His garments to His enemies, a thief to Paradise, and would soon commend His body to the grave and His soul to His Heavenly Father.
To whom, then, could He give the two treasures, whom He loved above all others, Mary and John? He would bequeath them to one another, giving at once a son to His Mother and a Mother to His friend.” - Venerable Fulton Sheen
The woman who carried Jesus in her womb, who taught him how to walk, who heard his first words, is now here in this place. Her son is beaten and bruised, mocked and scorned, but she stands by his side. Always by his side.
In this moment, Jesus gives all of us, as his disciples, the gift of his mother. He entrusts us to each other.
We can turn to Mary with confidence, knowing she loves us as a mother and wants nothing more for us than to remain close to her son. We can be assured of her prayers for us and find comfort in her heart, a heart completely full of love for Jesus.
Reflect: How can you invite Mary into your own heart today? How can she help you stand more firmly at the foot of the Cross?
