DAY 2 OF 7

The Right Attitude

As managers, individuals and institutions, we don’t exist just for worldly success. We look beyond, at the transformation of a people, a community. God guides us clearly to a group of people we are expected to work for. We need to ask Him to develop the right attitude in our hearts for the people we are called to serve. The heavenly success of our work is dependent on this. How we treat them is an indication of who God is to us and how much we love His instructions.

My wife and I never thought we would be led to a 25-year career in northeast India. When we realised that this was God’s plan for us, we knew that these people, whom we have been called to serve, should be considered our people. We have worked with people from all the seven states and have grown to love and appreciate them. This is our land and these are our people. We have not always been appreciated; some have threatened us, beaten us and even filed false court cases against us. Irrespective of how we are treated, we cannot disown our people.

Although Moses was born to the Israelites, God had taken him through a sequence of events which included a comfortable life in Pharaoh’s palace, with the possibility of even becoming a Pharaoh himself. However, when he became aware of God’s direction in his life, he chose to identify himself with the despised Israelites, giving up all hopes of a comfortable and luxurious life and taking the path of danger and hardship. He could do this easily because He had adopted the people whom God had called him to serve.

Even if we don’t work in Christian institutions, we are called to serve people. Whom has God called us to serve, as individuals and families and as institutions? Do we put in our time, talents and treasure to make them His treasured possession? Have we adopted them as our families and our people? It takes courage to call this group of people as our family and their nation as our home.

Lord, help me to own the people You have called me to serve. Amen

About this Plan

Not the Patterns of the World

This life-changing study wakes us up from our comfortable passivity and calls us to take stock of our lives. He shares his own testimony of heeding God’s call and stepping out in faith. Read about how he and his family held on to the heavenly values amid ridicule and rejection. Vijay reminds us that we are citizens of the Kingdom of Heaven temporarily posted to this world.
