Growing a Mother's HeartSample
Rainy, Noisy Days and Nights
(Biblical Mom, Noah’s Wife)
Imagine living in a floating zoo for forty rainy days plus another eighty days. The noise, smell, and ruckus would outdo any home, not to mention the dark skies and lack of sunshine making things gloomy. That’s where God sent Noah and his family. It took one hundred years for Noah and his sons to build the ark. These men must have had very patient wives. It also gave the four women time to adjust to the idea of a flood.
The Bible never mentions names Noah’s wife or the other three women. Moms sometimes lose their names and become so and so’s mom or wife. Hebrew tradition calls Noah’s wife Naamah. That means sweet or pleasant. It also means beauty or grace. We never hear a peep out of her. She and the other women remained silent person as they climbed in and out of the ark.
She stayed by her man and sons for hundreds of years. God commended Noah for pleasing Him. God declared He would destroy all the wickedness in the world. So, Noah’s wife and family must not have been wicked. Traveling with eight pleasant family members makes a long trip easier.
Noah’s wife remains one of the first people to witness a beautiful rainbow in the sky. She saw a great change from rainy days to a huge colorful arc that God painted in the sky. With no pollution or fog, nothing kept the full colors from sparkling. What a joyful sight to experience as a family. With it came a comforting promise that God would never send a flood to destroy the entire earth again. We can almost hear the women sigh and see tears of joy thinking they had lasted through the tough times and found beauty at the end.
Today’s Mom Step: God controls the sky and weather. Look up, see beauty, and trust all your problems under the sky to Him.
