Lent Youth Guide | Jesus' Real Talk During His Hardest & Darkest Moments

DAY 8 OF 39

Think:

Jesus now flips the script on what it means to be important. We’re used to thinking being served is the goal, right? The best seat at the table, and getting the VIP treatment, that's what we often crave. But Jesus, the Son of God, says, “Nah, I’m here to serve, not be served.” When we look at ourselves, we might find that we’re obsessed with getting recognition, respect, or power — just like the disciples arguing over who’s the greatest. The truth? It’s easy to get caught up in thinking the world revolves around us. But that’s not the path Jesus calls us to walk. Self-obsession only leads to stress and pride, while Jesus invites us to find peace in serving others.

Live:

This isn’t just about reading a cool story. It’s about realizing how self-centeredness sneaks into our lives. Maybe you’ve been chasing recognition, whether in your friendships, at school, or on social media. But ask yourself — what would it look like to serve instead of being served? To humble yourself, and care more about others than your own ego? Start paying attention this week: Are there moments where pride and self-obsession show up? What small shift can you make to live more like Jesus, offering your time and energy to serve others?

Some questions to ask yourself:

  • When was the last time I put others first, without expecting anything in return?
  • How can I humble myself in my relationships today?
Pray:
Jesus, I ask for the grace to see where my obsession with myself is getting in the way of living fully. Reveal to me the pride and selfishness that holds me back from serving others the way You do. Help me choose humility, let go of the pressure to be seen, and find peace in serving. Amen.
