I'm New! What Do I Do?

DAY 18 OF 35

Prayer and Impartation

Receiving and Giving God’s Gifts

God is generous. Think about it: He gave us His Son, and He died for us. Not only that, God gives us all things richly to enjoy. God is a generous giver!

God also gives gifts to the church. The Holy Spirit is one of these gifts, as we saw yesterday. Along with the Holy Spirit come other gifts like faith, miracles, healing, and more (see 1 Corinthians 12:1-11). These gifts are often imparted through the laying on of hands.

When a believer puts their hand on the head or shoulder of another believer, it symbolizes the connection of God with that person. This is why you may see believers lay hands on someone while praying — showing they believe what they are praying for is being imparted.

The laying on of hands is also used when someone is commissioned for ministry. For example, before a ministry assignment like pastoring or a missionary trip, church leaders will pray and lay hands on that person to approve them and impart a blessing as they go.

This act is simple yet powerful! Don’t be afraid to have someone pray for you and lay hands on your head, shoulder, or even a specific area needing healing, like a hurt foot or hand. Likewise, when you pray for others, you can ask to lay hands appropriately to show God’s connection with the person. As you do, God will reward your faith.

Prayer

“God, I am grateful for Your hand on my life. Impart to me Your heart and desire for my life. Thank You for being so generous! Amen.”
