The Divine Design of Marriage and Family

“Adam and his wife were both naked, and they felt no shame”.

God created the small institution of the family, beginning with the husband and wife. He made them innocent and without shame. The Lord God said, "It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him." God gave the husband a suitable helper.

We see that husband and wife are made for each other. That is why, on the wedding day in the church, the pastor pronounces, "Let no man separate what God has united."

Have we realised that God has given us a suitable helper (wife/husband)? This tells us that God specially designed each of us for our spouse and not for anyone else in this world.

Have we respected God for this divine creation? The man said, "This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh."

Are we willing to help our life partners? Are we making an effort to do so? If not, let us choose to obey God and help our spouse?

We should establish that we are suitable for each other. Will we exhibit this kind of relationship in our family? If it hurts the husband, it should hurt the wife. If it hurts the wife, it should hurt the husband (any word, act, treatment, situation, sorrow, or any such action). Do we experience this type of concern in our family?

No relationship exists as close and intimate as that of a husband and wife. The nakedness of each is only between the husband and wife. This is a God-given healthy sexual life framed by God. Every husband and wife should learn to respect each other until death, as this was the Creator's purpose. That is why God said, "For this reason, a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh."

However, if someone has ruined or destroyed the unity inside the family by bringing any form of unhealthiness into the husband-and-wife relationship, let us recognise it, restore the original relationship, and find peace.

Prayer: Lord, You have created and united us to live a happy life in this world. May each of us, as husband and wife, endeavour to fulfil Your desire and serve as a model in this world.
