Abide, Adore, Ask and Agree: 21 Days of Prayer and Fasting With Rock City ChurchExemplo
DAY 5
In the Old Testament, God’s presence and power were recognizable through fire. This was true of the temple in Exodus 40:38, Moses and the burning bush in Exodus 3, and Elijah at Mt. Carmel in 1 Kings 18. On the Day of Pentecost in Acts 2, we again see the evidence of God’s presence through what appeared as “tongues as of fire” resting on all the believers who received the Spirit of God.
What a wonder! The very same holy presence that made Moses remove His shoes and the same power that completely consumed the altar Elijah made is now alive in all who call on the name of Jesus!
Being filled with the Holy Spirit cannot be viewed as if we now just have a little boost, making it easier for us to become better people. It also doesn’t mean we have a power within us which we are to yield as we would a weapon. This means that the fullness of God, the God with whom nothing is impossible, is working in and through us. The transformation of our hearts and minds has become possible. The restoration of broken relationships is now on the table. The One who has authority over depression and anxiety is working inside us!
REFLECTION
1. What situation in your life seems impossible to overcome?
2. What task in your life seems impossible to complete?
3. How might the presence of the all-powerful God bring you hope?
PRAYER FOCUS
Pray to be filled with and empowered by the Holy Spirit.
