Journey Witnesses

DAY 36 OF 221

In an interesting exchange between Jesus and several Jews including scribes and Pharisees, Jesus completely turns their world on its ear. Certainly used to the freedom of practicing their faith—even in the Roman-ruled world—these Jews could not seem to understand how sin could have been enslaving them.

Jesus’ challenge is for them to stop thinking in terms of the world and start thinking in terms of the kingdom. To the world, what might look like freedom is actually enslavement to one’s own devices. True freedom would be found elsewhere.

We are not actually slaves, right? We are not being forced to live apart from our families in solitude and captivity. Maybe not literally, but our minds and hearts have been deceived by sin’s lies. We are told that we can make the rules and that we are in control. But in His great love and mercy for humanity, God did not leave us all out here to suffer as slaves or prisoners. He made a way.

Rescue is coming.

About this Plan

Journey Witnesses

Because ignoring the great commission is not an option. Jesus left us with the great responsibility to go and make disciples, to be witnesses, and to be his hands and feet in this world. Don’t leave something so important to chance. This reading plan is created to help you make disciples who make disciples. Use this reading plan the Awana Journey Bible Study book entitled Witnesses.
