- In the book of James, God reveals that true devotion to Him involves becoming an advocate for the marginalized members of society. The Lord wants His people to defend the defenseless and protect the vulnerable because that’s a proper representation of His heart and attitude towards broken humanity. All people are image-bearers of God, and therefore have inherent dignity and worth in His eyes.
- As we recognize the dignity God designed in all people, we can respond to their needs with the love that Christ has already shown us. This opportunity to love and sacrifice for other people is yet another way to worship our Lord, because His joy is increased when we love one another. Every father wants to see his children get along, and our heavenly Father is no different! As we love people with a Different & sacrificial commitment, we can Direct them towards the God who loved us first.
- Prepare to read the following verses by praying & asking God to focus your attention and affections on Him.
Reflection:
- Who do you overlook? Who do you intentionally or unintentionally consider lesser?
- Why do you not see those people? Why is it difficult to not follow God’s instructions?
- How can you be a “voice” for the overlooked?
