What Love Actually Means

The world thought it knew what love is. They thought it was that thing where your heart feels like it’s turning into a marshmallow. They thought love was something that made you feel good. They thought love was that thing that just “happens” when you’re around something or someone you really like. They thought love was also something that mysteriously stops when you don’t like that thing or that person anymore.

And they were wrong about so much of that.

Jesus taught the whole world what love truly is. He took that old definition of love and remixed it into something completely different—and completely wonderful. His love is so big that He gave His own life for us.

For now, watch this verse song video about 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 for what God’s definition of love is. This will be the foundation for everything you’ll learn in this Bible Plan.

Ask yourself: Which definition of love from 1 Corinthians 13 is the easiest for me to display?

Challenge yourself: Write down your answer from the “Ask yourself” question above. Then, write down three ways you show that aspect of love. Example: If you said “patient” is the easiest for you, you could write: I keep a good attitude while waiting for my mom to pick me up from practice. I don’t yell even when my sibling is taking too long in the bathroom. I’m gracious if my friend takes an extra turn while we’re playing video games together.

Pray: God, thank You for teaching us about a different kind of love. Your love is so rich that it’s hard to even understand. Your love never fails. Help me to show others Your love every day. Thank You for the way You love me. In Jesus’ name, amen.
