Fight for It: A 21-Day DevotionalSample
Today’s Devotional:
There is nothing that moves me to compassion like a child who is hurting. I remember encountering a child at Disney World who had become separated from her parents. She was around six years old and so scared she could barely speak. She just stood there with tears running down her face and watched the people as they passed by. She did not ask for help, but it was obvious she was lost. I went and stood by her and sent my other family members to notify a staff member, and while standing by her, I tried to ask her if she knew her parent’s phone number. She did not. We stood there, side by side, for about five to ten minutes until her frantic mom ran around the corner and saw her. All of the sudden, everything was fine. She had been rescued.
The similarity of this scenario to these Scriptures is so beautiful to me and helps me catch a glimpse of the love and care of God for us. We have a loving Heavenly Father who is moved with compassion at the plight of a child, his children, actually. He is a God of compassion and mercy. He is filled with love that cannot fail and faithfulness that will endure throughout every single one of our days. Just like I longed to see this child rescued and wasn’t going to give up until she was, He longs to see every one of His children rescued. I think He is especially moved when he sees His children hurting. He sees that they are confused, lost, or not sure where to go for help. This kind of compassion that I had for the little girl at Disney is the kind of compassion that I want to have for those who are lost spiritually around me because it is truly the heart of our Father for us. There are those who are lost but aren’t even able to ask for help, those who are hurting who just need someone to stand by them and help them know their next step to take, and those who need to be introduced to the Savior of the world - the one who forgives sins and brings healing and freedom.

Question:
- Who around you needs you to stand by them and reflect God’s compassion?
A Prayer to ‘Look In’: Holy Spirit, break my heart for what breaks yours. Give me compassion for those you have put in my life today. I pray for eyes to see them as you see them. I pray that you will use my hands, my feet, and my voice to be the compassion that you have for them. I pray that my time and my resources would be used for your glory, that my priorities would reflect yours, and that, ultimately, my life would be a reflection of this love you have for your children. In Jesus' name, amen.
