WEEK 1—WHO IS GOD?
DAY 1—THE CREATOR
Before we understand anything else about God, we have to understand the beginning of who God is—and that is as the creator. What an amazing thing to understand! God created all things—the mountains, the valleys, and everything that makes your jaw drop! And most importantly, he made YOU!
Think about this: there are around 1.2 million mountains, 3 million rivers, 304 million lakes, 8 billion people, and 3 trillion trees in the world. Yet God knows the smallest details of every single one of them. Your body has 37 trillion cells, and the Bible says that he knit you together in your mother’s womb, meaning he created and put together each one of those cells! God created YOU, and he loves you so much.
He created you for a purpose, meaning that you were not an accident—you have a meaning, purpose, and destiny. When we understand the significance of creation we can better understand who God is and how he sees us. In fact, in Genesis 1, when God created the first humans, he described his creation as “very good”—that’s how he sees you and I.
It’s also important to know that we are created in the image of God! That means God created us to be like him. God is loving, so we are designed to love. God is kind, so we are designed to be kind. God is patient, so we are designed to be patient. As you learn about God the creator, you’re learning who he created you to be.
