Why are you sleeping?

Think:

Jesus is about to face unimaginable pain and suffering. Yet, instead of running from it, He faces it head-on with honesty before God. This passage shows us the raw vulnerability of Jesus—He’s feeling it all: sorrow, anxiety, and the weight of what’s coming. But even in that moment, He’s still committed to God's plan, showing us that it’s okay to feel overwhelmed but we need to trust and submit to God’s will. His invitation to His disciples—and to us—is about staying awake, staying aware, and staying connected to God in the hardest moments.

Jesus invites us to learn from His example. When life gets hard, we might want to check out, hide, or shut down, but Jesus calls us to stay present and engaged. How can we create habits in our lives to stay awake spiritually—whether that’s setting aside time for prayer, finding quiet spaces to listen, or fighting through the exhaustion to be with God? Maybe it’s simply being aware of what’s going on in our lives and allowing God to use even the painful moments for His purposes.

• What are some areas where you’ve been “sleeping” in your spiritual life?
• How can you create space to be more aware of God’s presence in your day-to-day life?

Jesus, I ask for the grace to stay awake and aware of what You’re doing in and around me. Amen.
