Lent Youth Guide | Jesus' Real Talk During His Hardest & Darkest Moments

DAY 3 OF 39

Think:

Jesus was facing one of the hardest moments of His life, and He went to a garden—Gethsemane—to be real with His feelings. This wasn’t just a spot on a map, but a place where He let down His guard. He’s struggling, and feeling anxious, and instead of pretending like everything’s okay, He opens up about it to God and to His closest friends. He doesn't minimize or hide what He’s going through; He sits with it. It's a reminder that it's okay to be vulnerable with God and others, especially when life feels heavy. Too often, when we’re hurting, we push away or try to look like we’ve got it all together. But what if, like Jesus, we let ourselves truly feel it, and share those feelings openly?

Live:

Think about where you’re at emotionally right now. Are there places in your life where you’ve been pretending or holding back from God and others? What would it look like if you took a step into vulnerability, just like Jesus did in the garden? This Lent, how can you create space—not just physically, but emotionally—to be open, honest, and real with yourself, with God, and with the people who are walking with you? Reflect on your relationships—where could you lean into deeper emotional honesty with the people who matter most to you? How would that change things?

Pray:
Jesus, help me be more honest with You about my struggles. I pray for the grace to feel Your presence in the midst of the hard stuff, and for the courage to be open and real with You and the people I journey with. Amen.
