The Family of God

Understanding Your Place in God’s Family

In our lives, we have many types of relationships. Family is the closest and first relationship we are introduced to when we are young. As we grow, we learn about other relationships like friendships, instructors, and co-workers. Within these relationships are specific roles and structures. For example, how we relate to a coach or a boss is different from how we relate to our spouse or our children.

It is the same in the church. You were born again when you said “Yes” to Jesus. Now you are a part of the family of God. God Himself is your Heavenly Father, and you also have a whole lot of new brothers and sisters in church and all over the world. In the church, there are also roles and responsibilities, like pastors, teachers, and many other ministry helps in the family of God.

You have a place and a role in the family of God. You are gifted by God to serve and help others! God wants you to use your gifts inside and outside of the church to build the church. Your life matters, and what you do in service for God and others makes a difference eternally! Wow!

How do you know what to do? Start with what you are learning in the Bible and in church. Also, listen in prayer to what God is saying to you, and step out in faith to do it. God will lead you to your place and specific role in His family.
