Can we please show a little more grace?

“Déborah… I think I’m pregnant. And if that’s true, my dad—he’s a pastor—will be furious and kick me out of the house.” 🤰

The 16-year-old girl stood in front of me, crying. Helpless. Desperate. Scared. Absolutely crushed. And my heart broke: “How is it that someone already suffering under the weight of their situation now has to go through it alone—because they know full well that judgment will come before love?”

Of course, this is a really, really, really hard situation. But here’s my advice: Let’s begin with a hug—and then find a way forward, together.

If God were to point a finger of judgment before showing us love, we’d all be in serious trouble—for all eternity!

There’s a story in the Bible of a man born blind, who was later healed (see John 9:1-12). At that time, blindness was considered a sign of sin, so the Pharisees said to him, “You were born a total sinner!” (John 9:34 NLT) And even after Jesus healed him, they still rejected him: “They threw him out of the synagogue.” (John 9:34 NLT)

Back then—just like today—there are sadly still more people who condemn than who love. 😕

So let’s be different. Let’s put the finger-pointing away, and simply let people in—just as they are. ❤️

If people knew who I used to be… If they knew the things I’ve said and done—I’d be out. And if we’re honest… so would you, right? 😉

But the Bible says: “But now your sins are washed away, you are made holy, you were made right with God by calling on the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.” (1 Corinthians 6:11 NLT)

There are people TODAY who are standing where you stood YESTERDAY.

Let’s make sure they don’t get hit with our judgment, but with the same grace we have received… Or wish we had.

Because what someone receives TODAY, is exactly what they’ll be able to pass on to others TOMORROW. 💛
