The Divine Exchange: Trading Your Plans for God’s PurposeSample

When God Interrupted My Success
I remember that moment as if it were yesterday. My office smelled faintly of printer ink and ambition. The contracts were neatly stacked, clients were happy, and I was quietly congratulating myself for building something that, in my mind, surely made Heaven proud.
Then, in the middle of my well-orchestrated success, God whispered, “Close your business.”
I froze. For a second, I wondered if perhaps He meant “close your laptop.” But no, He was specific. Close the business. Surely, I had misheard. I reminded Him—quite respectfully, of course—that this business was His idea in the first place. It had sustained my family, empowered others, and even carried His name in the tagline.
Yet the instruction remained unchanged.
So, I did what any good Christian in denial would do—I prayed harder. I quoted Scripture, fasted, and even tried to bargain. You know those prayers that sound holy but are really negotiations? Yes, those. But deep down, under the spreadsheets and the strategy, I knew the truth. God wasn’t taking something from me; He was making room to give something to me. I just didn’t realise that His gifts often arrive gift-wrapped in surrender paper.
Lesson
When God interrupts, it’s rarely convenient, but it’s always kind. His endings are never to punish but to prepare. What He allows to die in your hands cannot survive in your next season. Let go of your version of success so He can trust you with His. The truth is—He’s not after your business; He’s after your heart.
