John wrote the fourth gospel to assure persecuted Jewish believers that Jesus was the fulfillment of God's ancient promises to the Jews; that Jesus really is the Christ, the Son of God. John wanted to make sure that they would remain faithful to Jesus and enjoy abundant life in him.

It was here that Jesus began his ministry as he performed miracles, healed people and taught in the synagogue. It was here that he called his first disciples, calmed the storm and walked across the water. It was from the Galilee region that Christianity would emerge and eventually spread across the world.

What do the miracles that Jesus performed 2000 years ago have to do with your life? Quite a lot, because Jesus is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow. He is a God of miracles and just as he raised his friend Lazarus from the dead back then, he can give you new life today in areas of your life that have long felt dead.

Near the end of his life, John was the last of the living apostles and wrote a story about Jesus. It’s his testimony of who Jesus is, what he said, what he did, and who he claimed to be. Jesus has a story. He invites us to make it our story. When we make Jesus’s story our story, we have life in his name. This plan focuses on Jesus’s final moments with his disciples, crucifixion, and resurrection. It is Jesus’s last will & testament.

Life is confusing and overwhelming at times. We wish there was a simple answer to our questions and problems, so why do we resist when people say, “What you need is Jesus”? Truth? “Jesus” isn’t just a church answer to church questions. As members of the early church discovered, Jesus is the answer you’re looking for. He really is what you need. Period.

Over the next two weeks, we'll follow the Easter story as we remember there is always a glimmer of hope, even in the deepest darkness. We'll talk about how Jesus is with us in the darkness and explore what it means that Jesus is the light in the darkness.
