This is a daunting number representing millions of souls looking for respite and relief from situations many of us can hardly imagine. Among these refugees, many have never had the opportunity to hear the gospel. How do we, as Christians, respond to this global crisis?

The story of Ruth and her mother-in-law, Naomi, is one of love, hope and redemption. Through a series of challenging circumstances, these women found the need to relocate to a faraway land. This story is one repeating itself throughout the world today. Whether we are the ones on the move or those welcoming new neighbors, how will we allow God’s providence to work in our lives and those around us?

Ruth had been through some of the worst things life could throw at her, yet she dared to believe God had more in store for her. This plan was written to help you understand what it takes to live boldly for God. If you’ve ever felt as though your back was against the wall and you needed God to show up in a big way, this is for you. 

The Bible begins with, “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was formless and empty.” But clearly, that was not a problem for God. He merely spoke and the emptiness was filled with life, beauty, and purpose. This gives us hope that God will do his best work in the emptiness of our own lives. Let’s pray and ask him to fill up our emptiness.

This 7-day Bible study is adapted from my devotional book, 31 Decrees of Blessing for Your Work Life. We will examine the various circumstances in scripture and real-life stories of application of these verses to your daily work life. In this study I’ll share stories of those who are living out the scripture and how you can apply it in your life daily.

Ruth is the story of a brave and humble woman. It is also the story of death, immigration, poverty, bitterness, and loneliness. Through it all the sovereignty of God brings about His purposes as He moves the narrative from death to life, barrenness to fruitfulness, cursing to blessing, bitterness to worship, loneliness to community, and frustration to answered prayer. In the end, Ruth and her story point us to Jesus.
