“It’s better this way”… “You’ll be better off”… We’ve all heard these words of encouragement from people who love us, but we don’t always believe them to be true. As we explore the richness of Scripture, the author of Hebrews will remind us that Jesus not only exercises the Authority over our lives as King, but as our High Priest, He becomes the fulfillment of a better hope for Humanity.

In this nine-day devotional, we will emphasize the Victories of Christ in three core pillars: 1) victory over eternal death, 2) victory over Satan, and 3) victory over the slavery of sin. Many times we find ourselves trying to fight a battle that Christ already won on the cross; thus, it’s necessary to know the victory that He has given us.

The following devotionals are designed to help you in your spiritual journey. Each article has been selected to help you understand more about God's love for you, and we hope that through these readings you will find encouragement, comfort, and true peace this Easter season.

Grab a notebook to jot down your thoughts as you are led through a process of: (1) observing the text of Hebrews; (2) interpreting the original message to its first readers; and (3) applying the letter’s timeless truths to your life today.

Jesus Christ has existed from eternity as God the Son. But He came to earth to make sinful people right with God again. His salvation work can be described in three key words: He is the ultimate Prophet, Priest and King — not just during His earthly ministry, but forever. This reading plan takes 11 days to discover what these three ‘offices’ of Jesus imply.

Jesus Christ is greater than all. By Him all things were created, and in Him all things hold together. Moreover, in Him are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge, and He forgives us all our trespasses, reconciling to God all things, whether on earth or in heaven. If we are united with Jesus, there’s nothing more to long for. He really is all in all!

Have you ever thought, “I’m not good enough?” What about any of these other thoughts? I’m not worthy of being a Christian. Other people are better Christians than I am. I’m the worst sinner ever. God could never forgive what I have done. God isn’t listening to my prayers. These are attacks of the devil. This plan will show how to defeat them all and more.

What’s really out there? While a biblical faith in Jesus is reasonable and pragmatic in many ways, it includes a spiritual realm, as well. During this 13-day plan, we hope to become more comfortable and familiar with some of Christianity’s unseen realities. 

Although the authorship of Hebrews is unclear, the message of the book could not be clearer: Jesus Christ is superior to all. Jesus’ name is greater than the angels, He is more faithful than Moses, and only His blood has the power to take away sin. Hebrews reminds us to look to Jesus and faithfully run the race He has called us to.
