The books of 1 & 2 Samuel tell the stories of three broken heroes used by God to establish a kingdom for His people: Samuel, the revered last judge; Saul, the impressive first king of Israel; and David, the flawed poet-warrior. Beyond the page-turning adventures, battles, and political gamesmanship lies the story of a greater King—the true and forever reigning son of David, Jesus.

After centuries of conquest and struggle, King David united the twelve tribes of Israel into a kingdom and led them into a golden era as a nation. 1 and 2 Kings recounts what happened over the next 400 years: from the prosperity of Solomon's reign, to civil war and the construction of temples, to worshipping other gods. Through it all, the books point to this resounding truth—Our God Reigns.
