It can be discouraging, trying to walk with the Lord and follow His commandments while our flesh wages a war against what the Spirit is leading us to. This week we’ll read and pray through the eighth chapter of Romans, and consider what Paul has to say about living our lives in Spirit, and not in the flesh.

All of us influence several others one way or the other. How do we influence? There is a way taught by Jesus. Let us be reminded about Jesus' way of living, loving and leading.

He’s got a perfect plan for your life – a plan for purpose, peace, joy, and eternal life. All it takes is you deciding that the poser life is not for you. You’re going to be fully committed!

We are body, soul and spirit. Flesh is the term for our Godless nature. Have you noticed a struggle within you, between your spirit and your flesh? The apostle Paul explains this struggle in chapters 6, 7, and 8 of the Epistle to the Romans. Paul does not justify mediocrity there, but explains how to live in Jesus' victory by living in the Spirit.

Do you sometimes become discouraged by not being able to keep God’s commandments? Do you understand that salvation is only possible through grace, not by keeping the Law? In this Plan, we will explore the limitations of legalistic faith in a logical way. I hope your joy in Christ will increase during this journey of grace.

Our faith isn’t a one-time moment of acceptance and salvation—it’s a continual walk with God as we seek to be more like Jesus. And we’re not alone on this journey! Hebrews 12 says that not only has Jesus walked the same path before us, but centuries of fellow believers who have faced every kind of challenge, sin, and peer pressure have run this race before us and are cheering us on. There are many things in our world that hinder our race. Our own sin, the sin of others, or even the good things we put in our life ahead of following Jesus. But we are empowered by the Holy Spirit to shatter every chain and sin and take our next steps in faith! What is holding you back? What’s keeping you trapped in fear and frustration? What is that thing in your life that you need to shatter to continue following hard after God?
