TRIALS & TEMPTATIONS
First, we must be quick to listen. Secondly, we are to be slow to speak. Hence, we are given two ears and one mouth. Thirdly, we must be slow to become angry.
We can avoid being angry if we are slow to speak and quick to listen. Both of these processes leads to living in God's righteousness which means right living, right relationships with God and others.
Why is anger such a big deal? Here is what Jesus had to say about anger.
21 “You have heard that it was said to the people long ago, 'You shall not murder, and anyone who murders will be subject to judgment.' 22 But I tell you that anyone who is angry with a brother or sister will be subject to judgment. Again, anyone who says to a brother or sister, 'Raca,' is answerable to the court. And anyone who says, 'You fool!' will be in danger of the fire of hell.” Matthew 5:21-22.
God desires us to have right relationship with one another and anger does not produce that. At all cost do not be tempted to give anger a place in your heart.

For James, Christians (that is, followers of his half-brother) should reflect the character of their God. And what we find in this letter is not works and more works as sometimes thought to be. On the contrary it is a letter infused by God’s character, with the intention of making God-shaped people living in the world.
