What do you worry about? How much time would you say you spend worrying every day? Final question: how has worrying every helped you with anything? In general, we are a worried society. We worry about little stuff like how many likes or follows we have on social media, we worry about what that guy or girl at school thinks about us. But, we also worry about big stuff…will my parents get divorced, will my friend who’s dealing with depression be okay, what if my whole life falls apart? As miserable as it is, we all fall victim to worry. And Jesus knows that about us, and it’s why He included it as a topic in this sermon. He goes to the most basic worries a human can have – issues of survival. Food to eat, clothing to keep us warm so we don’t freeze to death…anything most of us worry about on a normal day isn’t even close to as important as these two examples. And yet Jesus tells us that it is completely foolish and unnecessary to waste any time worrying. God knows everything we need, He is a loving Father, and He will take care of everything. So, the next time your brain gets all spun-out on worry, stop and remind yourself about the birds of the air and the flowers in the field…if God takes care of them every single day, He’ll come through for you too!
