What is water baptism?

If you could take a time machine to any moment in the Bible, when would it be?  There are so many profound moments that would be amazing to witness in person.  If I could travel in time to any moment, I would want to witness Jesus’ baptism.  Before Jesus began His ministry of preaching and miracles, He was water baptized in the Jordan River.  Many people had declared their faith and commitment by immersion in water as a sign and declaration of a new beginning. 

Jesus’ baptism was unlike any other baptism ever.  That’s why I’d want to witness this firsthand.  This is one of the only places we see God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit all present at the same time.

Water baptism doesn’t need to be complicated.  It is the outward expression of an inward decision.  It is not the water ceremony that saves you.  Jesus is the Savior.  Baptism is the celebration that the old is washed away, the sun has set, and yesterday is behind us.  Water baptism is something that we do out of obedience to Jesus.  It is something that Jesus did and something that He has called us to.
