SAYING 14: SURPRISE ME WITH THE TRUTH EVERY TIME
Parents want strong, healthy, independent-thinking, intelligent, compassionate, successful children. The wise sage admonishes his son, if your heart is wise then my job is done.
What is a ‘wise heart?”
The book of Proverbs explains how the wise share common characteristics:
10:14 “The wise store up knowledge.”
11:30 “The one who is wise saves lives.”
12:15 “listens to advice.”
12:18 “tongue brings healing.”
14:1 “the wise woman builds her house.”
15:7 “Spreads knowledge.”
15:31 “heeds life-giving correction.”
16:21 “the wise in heart are called discerning and gracious words promote instruction.”
29:8 “the wise turn away anger.”
29:11 “the wise bring calm in the end.”
Finally, Proverbs 21:22 says “one who is wise can go up against the city of the mighty and pull down the stronghold in which they trust.” All the stored knowledge, discernment, and strategy that the wise have learned is powerful enough to inventively confront the spiritual forces and destroy strongholds that a city has put in authority. The wise know how to dismantle destructive forces.
The power of the wise starts in listening to the father's teaching, and as a learner letting discipline create strength at the mind and heart’s core.
