He Knows My Name

This song holds a special place in my heart, and challenges me on a deep level. Whether we follow Christ or not, we are faced with circumstances and events that attempt to define our identity. I once heard a pastor say, “without a confidence of who we are in Christ, the world will be happy to tell us who we are.”

The longer I walk with Jesus, the more thankful I am that God doesn’t see situations the way I see them. We see impossible, and He sees possible in Him. Furthermore, I’m so thankful that God doesn’t see ME the way I see myself. Even in my weakest moments and on my worst days, God’s opinion about me doesn’t change, or doesn’t fluctuate like the weather.

Sometimes I may see myself one way, but God reminds me that because of Him, I’m chosen, I’m loved, I’m adored, I’m on His mind, I’m His favorite! The disciple John, who wrote the book of….wait for it… John, wrote about Jesus in a powerful way. John, under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, refers to himself multiple times as “the disciple whom Jesus loved”.

At first, that may seem like someone who is a little too full of himself, but I don’t know if that’s the way Jesus sees it! Regardless of where you’re at today, and what you’re feeling, know that when you’re in Christ, you are famous in his eyes. He’s proud of you, he loves you, you’re written on his heart, and he knows your name!
