Jesus made a bold declaration: His sheep hear His voice. Not “maybe” hear, “potentially” hear, or “possibly” hear. They hear.

If you are a Christ follower, then He is talking about you.

What’s more, the promise is that HIS SHEEP hear His voice, period. 

Not good sheep, perfect sheep, been a Christian a long-time sheep.

It’s not just those who seem to have “come out of the womb with a hotline to Jesus” sheep.

Nor is it only for those sheep who have been to Bible College, ordained in the ministry and successfully read their Bible in a year.

It’s sheep. 

If you call Jesus your Shepherd, your Good Shepherd, then you are His sheep and you hear His voice, no ifs, buts, or maybes.

You can hear His voice because of whose you are, not who you are. That’s good news!

I suspect that for many of you the problem isn’t that you can’t hear His voice. It’s that you aren’t recognising Him when He speaks.

Maybe His voice is more obvious than you realise.

In fact, that word “voice” in the Greek (phone) is tied to the idea of disclosure. We think of voice as dialogue, pages of sentences, coming out of a mouth, heard by the ears. The voice of the shepherd speaks in words, images, dreams, peace, sensings, knowings. There are countless ways He can speak. He can download direct to you or through someone or something else (not the least being your Bible).

Or maybe the problem is you’re not listening? You’ve got the ears but you’re not taking the time to listen up! 

Can I suggest you put your faith in His ability to speak rather than in your inability to hear?
