David Anointed as King
There’s so much to love about David’s story! From defeating Goliath, to serving at the right hand of the king, or running for his life and becoming a great king himself. We also get to see the early stages of his life. We see the David who was left behind when the prophet Samuel called for all of Jesse’s sons. We see the David who was ‘just’ a shepherd boy.
You get such a clear picture of how God looks past how we often see ourselves - our mistakes and shortcomings, or in David’s case a lack of status and stature. God sees through all that, into who we can become.
It’s easy to see someone in your world and compare yourself to them. They’ve got status, or they’ve got good grades, great looks, great ‘stuff’ and it seems like they get all the attention and opportunity. 1 Samuel 16 says, “For the Lord sees not as man sees: man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” He knows our strengths, our promises and our heart – why would we compare our potential and our dreams with anyone’s outward appearance, stature or status. God isn’t looking for us to “qualify” in order to bless or use us. God alone is our promoter; God alone is our qualifier.
