Joy: 37-Day Devotional

ڕۆژی29 لە 37

We live in a culture where modern-day wedding planning involves stunning lace dresses, eucalyptus florals and rose gold table décor in our Instagram feed. There are filters and ads constantly enticing us to want more, have more, and be more. Do you feel the pressure on women to have the perfect wedding?

What rarely is seen after the beautiful wedding photos is how a couple loves one another through hardship or in a daily routine. Unless you’re living your life on blast in Instagram Stories, no one is really going to witness the coffee conversations, breakfast dates or midnight work discussions in your home.

Doing life together after the big “I DO” for years to come can be a true challenge for a couple to display the fruits of the Spirit. It can be easy to do what simply pleases you while disregarding your spouse’s feelings. Demonstrating peace, love, patience, and joy in the words that you speak and the actions you take respectfully demonstrates how you choose to love one another.

Let us consider this: how do the words in my home signify the truth in my heart?

Walk this idea out by pausing before you pick at little annoyances about your spouse. The words on your tongue have the power to bring life and death. Regardless of the topics discussed, you have the power to choose to be mindful that your words build one another up. Critical words can cut at our hearts, self-esteem, and emotional health. Try discussing ways you can encourage one another throughout the week.

God, I thank you for the gift of my marriage. I ask that you help me to love my husband and allow the Holy Spirit to stir in me peace, patience and love through my words. Encourage my heart with loving words on my tongue that build us up. Provide mentors who can walk with me and continue to encourage me. In Jesus Name, Amen.
