Pray with Power

Jude says, “Pray in the Holy Spirit” (Jude 1:20). What does that mean? The Spirit of God dwells inside us. He lives in our hearts. He guides us. He guides our prayers. He illuminates us. We are filled with the Holy Spirit. The only connection we have with God the Father is through the Holy Spirit of God. Through Him, we can say, “God, I want You to hear my prayers.” 

By praying in the Spirit, we are able to say that there is a personal God. We are able to see His work in our lives. He personally meets us where we are. God wants us to pray to Him. He does not want us to just ask Him to bless our food. He wants us to admit, “Lord, I need You.”

See, sin will ruin our intimacy with God, but it will never change our proximity to God. I can't walk intimately with God and walk in sin at the same time. If you're a believer in Christ, yet you're choosing to sin, He is still near. He indwells your heart. Your faith is based on His grip on you, not your grip on Him. God lives inside you through the Holy Spirit. 

If you're not a believer in Christ, then Jesus is just one step away from you at all times. He wants you to turn to Him. He wants you to say, “Lord, I know that I am a sinner; I ask You to be my Savior. Wash me clean. Be my forgiveness. Be my Messiah. I believe in the prophecies. I believe in the empty tomb. I need You to save my soul.” He's one breath away from the unbeliever and He dwells in the believer. 

When we pray, what happens is that our prayers become our connection in our hearts to God. We truly get to know Him, because now we're talking to Him. So we are able to say, “Lord, not only do I know why I believe; I'm talking to Who I believe. I'm asking You for help and I'm calling out on behalf of my family, my kids, my grandkids, my marriage, my singlehood, my job, my office.” Everywhere you go, pray. Just pray and let God do His work.
